Judy Rader is an oil painter who resides on Deer Isle, Maine. The variety and character of the island landscape provides an endless source of inspiration for her.
For the most part Judy paints landscapes. She works on site and adds finishing touches in her studio. Her palette consists of seven colors plus white (no black). She paints in oil on linen canvasses which she stretches and primes herself. Her goal in a painting is to look for reflected color, create a balanced composition and see what happens.
She worked for many years as an art teacher in public schools but always continued to paint as her “side” job. She studied oil painting at the University of the Americas in Mexico City, Savannah College of Art and Design and the University of Delaware to name a few places. Also, she was strongly influenced by the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia through the artist-teacher Edward Loper, Sr. She has had three one-person shows in Maine and has received numerous prizes and awards.
